An International Academic Competition in French
The Francophone Moot Court Competition offers students a unique opportunity to experience international arbitration through the drafting of written submissions and simulated oral pleadings.
It aims to foster academic excellence, legal rigour and advocacy skills in a spirit of openness and exchange.


 

Registration and Information

Universities wishing to enter a team are invited to register their team by 19 October.

Competition Rules

The Case (available from 26 October)

Organisation

The 2nd edition is organised by the University of Fribourg in collaboration with the European Court of Arbitration, the Swiss Permanent Arbitration Organisation, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Basel, and the Institute for International Business Law (IBL), Fribourg.

Participation

The competition is open to law students from universities worldwide who have a sufficient command of French. Each team consists of 3 to 5 participants from the same university.

Competition Format

Written Phase

• Drafting of a claimant’s written submission
• Drafting of a respondent’s written submission

Oral Phase

• Preliminary oral pleadings held online
• Final rounds held in person in Fribourg

Key Dates

19 October 2026 – Registration deadline

26 October 2026 – Release of the case to participants

6 November 2026 – Deadline for submitting questions

13 November 2026 – Publication of the answers

30 November 2026 – Submission of the claimant’s written submissions

18 January 2027 – Submission of the respondent’s written submissions

11–13 February 2027 – Preliminary oral pleadings held online

24 February 2027 – Announcement of the teams selected for the round of 16

29 April–1 May 2027 – Final rounds at the University of Fribourg
