Welcome PhD
An information session for newly enrolled doctoral candidates. This event features presentations on all the essential resources for your doctoral studies. The reception that follows offers you the opportunity to network and speak directly with department and faculty representatives.
Writing Workshop
A four-day workshop featuring writing sessions and individual guidance for doctoral candidates, regardless of the stage of their dissertation project. Based on a process-oriented and strength-based approach to writing instruction, this course covers the various stages of the writing process, structuring the research question, and effectively analysing specialised literature. The workshop also covers the development of academic writing, strategies for overcoming writing challenges, systematic text revision, and aspects related to personal well-being in everyday university life.
Writing Days
Monthly writing sessions offering doctoral candidates a setting in which they can work continuously on their own dissertation projects within a structured group environment.
Writing Retreats
A three-day writing retreat organised by the Graduate Campus at Münchenwiler Castle, offering advanced doctoral candidates at the University of Fribourg the space, time, and support needed to write their dissertations. The programme combines periods of individual writing with personalised advice and one-on-one guidance aimed at optimising the effectiveness of academic writing.
Workshop on Preparing for the Thesis Defence
This interfaculty workshop helps doctoral candidates in the second half of their doctoral programme prepare for their oral defence. The course addresses the challenges, objectives, and expectations associated with the defence, the structure of the session—both in terms of organisation and content—as well as the pedagogical design of the scientific presentation. It also prepares candidates for questions from the jury and for the symposium, and provides a space for sharing experiences.
