PAW 2026: Non-EU/EFTA citizens - Working in Switzerland after a PhD or Post-doc

Academic or specialist Study meeting

Are you a non-EU/EFTA PhD student or postdoc wondering how you can continue your career in Switzerland?

This workshop provides detailed information for non-EU/EFTA citizens on:

- The legal status of PhD students and postdocs
- The requirements for obtaining a work permit
- Eligibility for unemployment benefits

After the workshop, participants will have a clearer understanding of their immigration status in Switzerland, whether as a student or a worker, helping them plan their next career steps.

Participants will learn about the federal legal framework for migration and the specific practices of the Canton of Fribourg. The requirements for obtaining a work permit will also be explained in detail.

Finally, the workshop will cover the conditions for receiving unemployment benefits, particularly relevant for those whose employment contract is about to expire.
