With a broad experience in international law and insurance, Dr. Jean-Claude Werz started his law studies at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and obtained his lic. Iur. and doctorate from the University of Fribourg, as well as an LL.M from the University of California, Berkeley. He was admitted to the Zurich bar and served as a member of the Liability Commission of Swiss Insurers Association for several years.

After 2 years as in-house counsel in the international leasing industry, Dr. Werz worked for 33 years in the insurance industry, mainly liability insurance. He was a Member of Senior Management at Winterthur Group’s Head Office, supervising and supporting the underwriting activities of Winterthur’s foreign subsidiaries. He subsequently worked as a senior liability specialist for AXA Insurance Switzerland and then as a consultant for the AXA Group in Paris, as well as for the Swiss Association of Professional Insurance Education.

Dr. Werz has worked on legal and business issues in connection with underwriting and product development. He has also dealt with compliance issues in connection with cross-border insurance. His professional experience further includes the drafting of underwriting guidelines, as well as the training of underwriters both in Switzerland and other countries.
