Dr. Despina Mavromati, LL.M., M.B.A., is an attorney with longstanding expertise in international sports law, sports contracts, and arbitration. With over 15 years of cross-border legal practice, she has acted as counsel, arbitrator, co-counsel, and expert witness in high-profile disputes before arbitral tribunals and state courts.

She brings a unique institutional perspective to sports dispute resolution, having served as Managing Counsel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where she oversaw hundreds of proceedings across the full spectrum of sports disputes. Today, she continues to serve as a CAS arbitrator and as a Member of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) Appeals Chamber, combining procedural rigor with deep knowledge of the governance and contractual framework of international sport. Dr. Mavromati’s practice covers contractual, disciplinary, and governance matters in sport. She has particular experience in the drafting, negotiation, and interpretation of sports contracts, including employment agreements, transfer and agency contracts, media rights, and sponsorship deals. Her expertise extends to the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, as well as complex procedural issues under Swiss Private International Law and EU law.

Dr. Mavromati is a former lecturer at the University of Lausanne, where she taught Sports Arbitration from 2017 to 2023. She authored the widely cited treatise “The Code of the Court of Arbitration for Sport: Commentary, Cases and Materials” (Mavromati & Reeb, 2nd ed., Wolters Kluwer, 2025), which has established her as a leading authority in international sports arbitration.
