What course combination should I chose for my master?
Students are generally advised to choose course combinations that set clear, job profile oriented focal points.
What modules can I take in the area of management?
There are in total 9 modules to choose from: General Management, Accounting and Control, Finance, Business Informatics, Marketing, Strategy, Organisation and Human Resource Management, European and Global Business and Non-Profit Management
What modules can I take for the MA in Management?
To receive a MA in Management, students must complete at least three of the following modules: General Management, Accounting and Control, Finance, Business Informatics, Marketing, Strategy, Organisation and Human Resource Management, European and Global Business and Non-Profit Management. What modules can I take for the MA in Accounting and Finance?
To receive a MA in Accounting and Finance, students must complete the modules Accounting and Control as well as Finance. A module is completed when at least 15 ECTS-credits are achieved (max. 48). 18 ECTS-credits can be chosen from other modules and courses (max. 9 ECTS-credits outside of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences). What modules can I take for the MA in International and European Business?
27 ECTS-credits must be achieved by attending courses from the module European and Global Business. Furthermore, one additional management module must be completed (12 ECTS; General Management, Accounting and Control, Finance, Business Informatics, Marketing, Strategy, Organisation and Human Resource Management, Non-Profit Management). Is it possible to attend courses that are not part of one of the modules in management?
Yes, in all masters, at least 9 ECTS- credits can be recognised that were achieved outside of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Another 9 ECTS-credits can be recognised that were achieved outside of the management modules but inside the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. This rule is also valid for courses attended during a mobility program.
In what case am I required to attend a pre-master?
Students owing a bachelor's degree from another faculty than Economics and Social Sciences without a minor (60 ECTS-credits) in management that want to start a MA in Management, Accounting and Finance or European and Global Business, are must attend a 60 ECTS-credits pre-master program. The courses must be equivalent to the courses from the 60 ECTS-credits minor.
If I do not have a minor in management, do I for sure have to attend all the pre-master courses?
No, courses during your bachelor that are equivalent to the courses in the minor can be accounted for. In any cases, this must officially be confirmed by the dean's office (Ms. Chantal Achermann).
Can I already start with my master during the pre-master?
Yes, you can already take master courses that amount up to 18 ECTS-credits during the pre-master. If your pre-master program includes 30 ECTS-credits or less, you can take as many master courses as you like.
What courses are available for a BA minor in management?
The list of courses defined at the beginning of the respective studies is applied.
What should I do when two courses of the minor take place at the same time?
In this case, students are advised to take mandatory courses first.
Can I take two minors (30 ECTS-credits) during my bachelor studies (e.g. Information Systems & Management)?
Yes, this is generally possible but not recommended due to numerous overlaps. It is therefore, recommended to take a 60 ECTS-credits minor also because it allows students to start a master in this field as well.
How many modules are required to get a minor in management (MA)?
At least two modules must be completed to receive a minor in management.
Can I take all master courses available for my MA minor in management?
Yes, all master courses from all modules can be accounted for to get a minor in management.
I fell sick during an exam. Is the result valid?
Students that took note of the questions in the exam can generally not invalidate results even with a doctor's certificat. In any case, students must bring a doctor's certificat dated the same day to ask for invalidation of results.
How many ECTS-credits can be insufficient in order to still receive a degree?
The 20% rule is generally applied. A maximum of 20% of courses per year (bachelor in management) or 20% of courses in the minor can be insufficient if the average grade is still sufficient. For one year or minor, this would amount to 12 ECTS-credits.
Recognition of ECTS-credits from other Universities (e.g. BeNeFri or Mobility)
Can courses from ther Universities than the University of Fribourg generally be recognised?
Yes, this is generally possible. The course content must be equivalent to the respective courses at the University of Fribourg. This is specifically important for mandatory courses (particularly applies for bachelor courses).
