This course is open to all students and staff at the University of Fribourg and its partner institutions, and is aimed in particular at Bachelor’s or Master’s students, administrative staff and exchange students.

Course content and teaching method
Aimed at learners at B2–C1 level, this course develops oral and written communication skills through a creative writing project. Using a comic strip as a starting point, participants work collectively to produce an epistolary novel. The activities are based on a communicative and collaborative approach, enhanced by the use of generative artificial intelligence tools to stimulate creativity, support the various stages of the writing process, improve the texts and encourage critical reflection on the uses of AI in learning French.

Time commitment and assessment
The course runs for 1 hour 30 minutes each week and requires approximately 1 hour of independent study per week. It culminates in an in-class assessment at the end of the semester.

Learning objectives

By the end of the term, you will be able to:

- produce narrative and epistolary texts suited to different communication contexts;
- employ a rich vocabulary and complex grammatical structures in written work at B2–C1 level;
- develop a creative writing project in collaboration with other participants;
- use generative artificial intelligence appropriately to plan, draft, revise and improve your texts;
critically evaluate the suggestions generated by AI and adapt them to suit your communicative intentions;
- design effective prompts, identify the limitations and biases of AI tools, and develop an authorial approach by using AI as a writing partner rather than a substitute.
- strengthen your oral communication skills through discussion, peer review and the presentation of your work

Target audience

This course is for participants who have at least completed level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Please only register if your level corresponds to the course. Participants of our partner institutions and Unifr employees can contact us to take a placement test if they are unsure of their level. Unifr students are automatically guided to the placement test when registering for a course on MyUnifr.
