Course contents and teaching method 

This course is aimed at learners of French as a foreign language who wish to consolidate and refine their command of spelling and vocabulary with a view to reaching levels B2/C1, in accordance with the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

General objectives

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

- Master the complex spelling rules of French, particularly those governing the agreement of nouns and adjectives;
- Recognise and apply the specific spelling rules relating to compound nouns and colour expressions;
- Use a rich and nuanced vocabulary to express sensations, emotions and feelings;
- Describe with precision socio-cultural realities relating to traditions, family relationships, friendships and romantic relationships;
- Produce texts that are orthographically correct and lexically varied, suited to complex communicative situations.

Course content

Spelling module

- The plural of simple nouns: formation with -s and -x
- The spelling and plural forms of compound nouns
- The feminine form of adjectives
- The plural form of adjectives
- Expressions containing a colour noun (agreement and invariability)

Vocabulary section

- Sensations, emotions and feelings : the five senses; character and personality; emotional states
- Customs and social relationships: family origins and traditions; circles of friends; romantic relationships

Teaching approach

The course alternates between theoretical input, analysis of authentic texts, progressively more challenging practical exercises, and written and oral production activities, helping students to consolidate their knowledge of spelling rules and expand their vocabulary in context.

Workload and evaluation 

This course requires regular homework (1 to 2 hours per week).

To validate the course, students must attend at least 80% of the sessions and pass the exams during the semester.

For this course, you must have in your possession the documents required for the course, which you will find on Moodle.
No textbooks are required.

Target audience

This course is for participants who have completed level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Please only register if your level corresponds to the course. Participants of our partner institutions and Unifr employees can contact us to take a placement test if they are unsure of their level. Unifr students are automatically guided to the placement test when registering for a course on MyUnifr.
