Translation of the Third Book of Kingdoms

This project of translating the Greek Bible, the Septuagint, into French has its hub in Paris. Inspired by Dominique Barthélemy, this undertaking is directed by Prof. Marguerite Harl (Emeritus Professor at Paris IV-Sorbonne), Prof. Gilles Dorival (professor at Aix-en-Provence), and Prof. Olivier Munnich (professor at Paris IV-Sorbonne). It is published by the Éditions du Cerf. To date, seventeen volumes have appeared. This undertaking is one of the great biblical projects currently in progress in the French-speaking world. The translation of the Septuagint into French allows one to discover the Bible from another viewpoint, and to appreciate it as a major literary source in Western culture, which has been profoundly influenced by it since the third century B.C.

Prof. Philippe Lefebvre (of Fribourg) is responsible for the introduction, translation and annotation of the Third Book of Kingdoms (1 Kings).
