New edition of the Hebrew Bible

This is an enormous international and ecumenical project (Catholics, Protestants and Jews) engaged in producing a new edition of the Hebrew Bible, under the direction of the German Bible Society. This edition is destined to become the reference Bible for scholars involved in exegesis, as well as for Bible translators. This edition consists in establishing a diplomatic text (based on ms. B19A (Leningradensis), together with a critical apparatus containing the significant variant readings attested in Hebrew manuscripts, and in versions such as the Septuagint (Greek), the Vulgate (Latin), the Peshitta (Syriac), and the Targums (Aramaic).

Fascicules already published include: Genesis, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Judges, the Twelve Prophets, Proverbs, the Megilloth (Ruth, Canticles, Qohelet, Lamentations, Esther), Ezra-Nehemiah. The next volumes to appear will be Job and Ezekiel.
Fribourg is at the centre of this important undertaking in that two members of the editorial committee are located there: the president, Adrian Schenker (editor of Kings) and Innocent Himbaza (editor of Leviticus).
