Dr. Iva Vasic
Iva Vasic is a postdoctoral researcher in the Digitalization and Information Systems Research Group and the Smart Living Lab, Department of Informatics, University of Fribourg, Switzerland. In 2025, she received a PhD degree in the field of Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Marche, Ancona, Italy. Since her enrolment in doctoral studies in 2021, she has been a member of the Vision, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (VRAI) research team (Italy). In 2023, she was also a visiting PhD student at the Digitalization and Information Systems Group and the Smart Living Lab at the University of Fribourg, where she conducted research focused on artificial intelligence (AI), knowledge graphs, and three-dimensional (3D) visualization. Dr. Vasic was involved in the Virtual Immersion in Territorial Arts (V.I.T.A.) project from 2021 to 2024, in the Digital Curator Training & Tool Box (DCbox) Erasmus+ Programme project from 2022 to 2024, and in the INTERREG - IPA in 2013 and 2020. She has served as a reviewer for multiple venues, including the ACM and Expo DH25, and is a member of the IEEE. She won the Salento AVR 2021 Best Paper award.
Her research focuses on the fundamental aspects of AI-driven spatial computing and semantic modeling in built environments. Within the Digitalization and Information Systems Research Group, she investigates metamodeling and knowledge-based approaches for connecting geometric representations with formal and data-driven processes that describe and reason about built spaces in XR contexts. Her broader research interests include large language models, spatial computing, neural and neuro-symbolic architectures, human-computer interaction, and mathematical approaches to 3D geometry understanding.
