4th International Workshop Modeling in the Age of Large Language Models (LLM4Modeling) at ER'2026
Organizers: Hans-Georg Fill (University of Fribourg), Peter Fettke (DFKI and Saarland University), Julius Köpke (University of Klagenfurt), Simon Curty (University of Fribourg)
Date: October 5-8, 2026
Location: Collocated with the 45th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER'2026) in St. John's, NL, Canada
Workshop Description:
Large Language Models (LLMs) and related technologies, such as AI agents, have attracted significant attention in both academia and practice in recent years. Conceptual modeling is no exception: early LLM-based approaches for generating, analyzing, and even executing conceptual models have already demonstrated promising potential. Nevertheless, research at the intersection of generative AI and conceptual modeling is still in its infancy, giving rise to a range of fundamental open questions: How can LLMs and related technologies be effectively integrated across the entire conceptual modeling lifecycle? How will LLMs reshape modeling practices, methods, and tools? In what ways will the tasks and competencies of modelers evolve? Will LLMs act as a catalyst that strengthens the role of conceptual modeling, or could they ultimately challenge and diminish its relevance?e?
The workshop aims at illuminating potentials and challenges of LLM in modeling. The following topics are addressed by the workshop (list is not exhaustive):
- How to apply Generative AI throughout the conceptual modeling life cycle?
- How to combine LLMs and Model-driven engineering?
- How to support interactive and collaborative modeling including LLMs and LLM Agents?
- How to (automatically) evaluate LLM-Based approaches for conceptual modeling?
- How are modeling results evaluated with LLMs?
- How can conceptual modeling and LLM-based agents be integrated?
- How are LLMs embedded in well-known tools?
- How can LLM be used for teaching of modeling?
- What new modeling tasks are emerging? How do modeling tasks change?
Registration: via ER Registration website
Deadline for Submissions: July 6, 2026
Notification: August 3, 2026
Camera-ready versions: August 10, 2026
Submissions via EasyChair
Submit papers via EasyChair for ER 2026 to the “LLM4Modeling Workshop Papers” Track.
Since the proceedings will be published by Springer in the LNCS series, authors must submit manuscripts using the LNCS style or Overleaf. The page limit is 16 pages (excluding one page references). Papers will be judged on contribution, literature basis, novelty, clarity, relevance, and rigor. The review process is double-blind. Submissions must be anonymized.
Special Issue in EMISAJ
It is planned to organize a special issue after the workshop in the Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling. Papers accepted for the workshop may receive the option for a fast-track review process.
