Programme Content, Support Measures, and Validation Procedures for Access to Regular Studies
The University of Fribourg offers a preparatory year for individuals with a legal status pertaining to the field of asylum. Its purpose is to prepare participants for their university studies by providing them with comprehensive support. It is offered in two variants: Hérodote and Hérodote Plus. The components of both programmes are similar, but the admission requirements differ.
Hérodote programme
Hérodote is intended for individuals pertaining to the field of asylum who have not yet reached level B2 in their study language, but who fulfil the other formal admission requirements of the University. The programme enables participants to reach a B2 level and to prepare for an official language exam to validate this level.
Hérodote Plus programme
Hérodote Plus is intended for individuals pertaining to the field of asylum who are at least 24 years old and have an academic background, but who do not meet the admission requirements of the University of Fribourg. The programme enables participants to reach level B2 in the study language and to prepare for an admission “sur dossier” procedure at the University.
Herodotus, who is remembered as a famous historian of ancient Greece, experienced political exile from adolescence onward. He was forced to leave his hometown of Halicarnassus, because his family opposed its rulers and was therefore persecuted.
The many journeys he undertook during his exile nourished the body of work that led posterity to regard Herodotus as the “father of History”.
Hérodote and Hérodote Plus receive financial support from the project Perspectives - Studies for the period 2024 to 2026.
