Semester Courses
Course Registration Information
Students of the University of Fribourg can register directly via MyUnifr. For all other groups (employees of Unifr, employees and students of our partner institutions), course registration takes place via our website.
Auditors, persons from outside the university (except partner institutions) and visiting students who are not part of a Mobility Programme do not have access to the semester language courses.
Registration Procedure
Registration for the course also includes registration for the examination or the evaluation procedure. Further information regarding the registration procedure can be found within our General Conditions for Participation.
Students Unifr
When registering for a language course for the first time, an online placement test must be completed. You can access the test when you register for a course on MyUnifr. If you have already taken the placement test in the previous semester, you do not need to retake it in the following semester.
For Italian courses, you may also have to participate in an oral placement interview (more information is contained in the online placement test).
Employees Unifr and participants of partner institutions
Registration for German, French and English courses is based on a self-assessment of your level by using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). If you are unsure of your level, please contact us to take a placement test.
For Italian courses, you have to take the online placement test and you may also have to participate in an oral placement interview. Please contact the secretariat to get access to the test.

Fees
Participation in semester language courses is free of charge for students and staff of the University of Fribourg. All courses are subject to a fee for external university persons. The fee is CHF 500.– per semester (i.e. approx. CHF 18.– per lesson).
By registering for at least one course, members of our partner institutions can also access the Self-Access Centre for Language Learning and UNITandem during the same semester.
