C1 Advanced General English (Blended Course)
C1 Advanced General English is a course for higher level learners to make measureable progress in reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is open to students and employees of the University of Fribourg and partner institutions and is ideal for anyone who has successfully completed a B2 course and wants to take their English language skills to an advanced level (or to consolidate their existing C1 language skills!).
Course contents and teaching method
This is a blended course that combines face-to-face classroom teaching with online materials from Roadmap C1-C2 (Pearson, 2021). Participants are only required to attend in-person classes every other week. The final timetable is confirmed in week 3 of the course depending on the make up of the group.
The in-person classes are highly interactive and focus on productive skills (speaking and writing), while the online materials are more focussed on receptive skills (reading and listening). C1 level grammar and vocabulary is presented and trained throughout the course.
Part 1 of this course takes place in the autumn semester and part 2 in the spring semester. However, theses are stand alone courses and you may attend in either or both semesters.
Workload and evaluation
Regular attendance and active participation is required to pass this course, as is passing the end-of-semester written test.
Materials
All participants are required to buy the print or digital version of Roadmap C1-C2 (Pearson, 2021). Confirmation of the correct ISBN number for this resources is provided in week 1 of the course and you should not buy this resource before then!
Ziele
By the end of this course, participants will have improved their ability to:
- understand with ease virtually everything heard or read
- summarise information from different spoken and written sources
- reconstruct arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation
- express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
