Leadership Team

Andrej Lushnycky has been the director of the American College Program at the University of Fribourg since 1994. Under his guidance the ACP has transformed from a traditional study abroad program, founded in 1925, into more varied, innovative, and interdisciplinary programs on international organizations, international security, international relations, and global environmental issues with partnerships at the United Nations in Geneva, the Swiss Federal Assembly, the European Union Parliament in Strasbourg, the Council of Europe, NATO in Brussels and more.

In addition to his academic and administrative leadership of the ACP, Andrej Lushnycky has also served in the capacity of Senior Associate of the Interfaculty Institute of Central and Eastern Europe (IICEE) at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland for many years. He has authored numerous articles on contemporary Ukrainian history, as well as culture and diaspora studies and is co-editor of two volumes of the prestigious series Interdisciplinary Studies on Central and Eastern Europe, Vol. 1 Ukraine at a Crossroads, (Nicolas Hayoz, Andrej N. Lushnycky) and Vol. 4 Ukraine on its Meandering Path Between East and West (Andrej N. Lushnycky, Mykola Riabchuk) and contributing author in Vol. 14 Ukraine after Euromaidan. He has contributed to the Atlantic Council, the Kyiv Post, Novoe Vremya, as well as numerous Swiss and international TV, newspapers and journals.

Regularly advising government officials, diplomats, journalists, civil societies, in Switzerland and abroad, Andrej Lushnycky is the founder and chairman of the Ukraine Forum at the Parliament of Switzerland and the co-initiator and former Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Switzerland-Ukraine at the Swiss Federal Assembly. In recognition of his work contributing to improving bilateral relations between Switzerland and Ukraine Andrej Lushnycky received the Tell Award in 2018 from the Swiss Confederation.

Finally, Andrej Lushnycky has served as the president of the Ukrainian Society of Switzerland since 1998, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Switzerland since 2014, a member of the Foreign Advisory Board of the Ukrainian World Congress since 2021, initiator of the Coordinating Council of Ukrainians in Switzerland in 2023 and board member of the Swiss Order of St. Panteleimon since 2024.

Teaching Fellows 

Yaman Gürsel is a Turkish-qualified lawyer, who holds an LL.M. from the University of Fribourg/Freiburg (Switzerland) and an LLB from Istanbul Bilgi University. Currently, he is doing a second LL.M. at Georgetown Law Center as a Kronstein fellow, while doing an externship at Three Crowns LLP in Washington DC.
His fields of expertise are international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, and secured transactions. He has worked on a number of international arbitrations related to commercial, investment, and sports disputes, subject to Swiss and Turkish law.
After he completed his LL.M. studies at the University of Fribourg (magna cum laude), he got admitted doing a Ph.D. in private law under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pascal Pichonnaz. His doctoral dissertation is based on a comparative analysis of floating charges and non-possessory pledges over movable assets, aiming at optimizing access to financing for SMEs. He has published several articles in relation to his area of specialization, comparative secured transactions law with a particular focus on the non-possessory security interest over movable properties.
