    Description

    A family is a natural social system that occurs in a diversity of forms today. Families display a recurring pattern of interactional sequences in which all members participate.

    Family therapy looks at the current family context that includes the experiences of the here and now among members and how they speak about the past. It is a way of understanding how individuals behave in families, experience intimate relationships, engage in wider social interactions and support them in maintaining healthy family relationships and effective communication with other family members. This type of therapy is unique in that problems and difficulties are viewed through a broader lens and as a part of the complex system of the family.

    This course, aims at broadening one’s conceptual framework for understanding families and their unique way of functioning.  It will thus provide an overview of the evolving viewpoints, perspectives, values, intervention techniques and goals of family therapy.
