The University of Fribourg offers its staff an interesting range of occupations, a centrally-located workplace and up-to-date employment conditions.

    The working week at the University is determined by the relevant state legislation and comprises 42 hours.

    Staff are entitled to 5 weeks annual leave.

    The working time within the framework time from Monday to Friday, from 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. can generally be freely arranged. At the same time, however, the proper functioning of the company must be ensured.

    Expecting mothers are entitled to maternity leave of up to 16 weeks.

    Fathers are entitled to paternity of two weeks.

    In the case of adoption, the entitlement is 12 weeks. If both parents work for the State of Freiburg, only one of the two parents can take the 12 weeks of leave. The second parent can draw 15 vacation days. The parents decide on the distribution of these vacation days.

    Staff members with children also benefit from a one-off birth allowance and supplementary cantonal family and employer allowances.

    The emergency childcare service «Red Riding Hood» is at your disposal free of charge, if your child is ill or injured on a working day. More information :

    Salaries, numerous other employment conditions

    Because all University staff are covered by the relevant cantonal legislation, salaries and numerous other employment conditions are governed by the Canton’s guidelines. The level of remuneration is determined, for example, by the level of education, relevant professional experience, but also by the requirements of the position and its minimum qualifications.
