    Liliia Khasanova (February-April 2022)
    Liliia Khasanova spent three months at the Institute of European Law as a post-doctoral research fellow. Her research interests include national/cultural perspectives on the international law of cyberspace, the impact of information and telecommunication technologies (ICTs) on international legal order, and gender dimensions in international peace and cyber negotiations. During her stay at the institute, Liliia continued her project "Legal Disputes - Political Conflicts: Negotiating Disputes in International Law of Cyber Security". Liliia started by identifying the different approaches to the international law of cyberspace, existing and emerging dividing lines by analyzing official statements of the state representatives and international multilateral reports negotiated in the field. The next part of the project will use legal empirics by completing semi-structured interviews with the state representatives and constructing case studies. Such interdisciplinarity allows to address the divergence in perspectives from multiple angles and informs future negotiation processes.

    Christian Tshiamala Banungana (Septembre 2019 - Août 2020)
    Détenteur d’un diplôme d’études supérieures en droit, Monsieur Tshiamala Banungana Christian est doctorant à la faculté de droit de l’Université de Kinshasa où il exerce les fonctions d’enseignant (Chef de travaux).  Il a bénéficié d’une bourse des recherches doctorales de l’Université de Fribourg en 2018. Il est chercheur invité auprès de la Chaire de droit international public et de droit européen avec une bourse d’étude de la Confédération suisse pour chercheurs doctoraux. Sous la direction de Madame le Professeur Astrid Epiney et Monsieur Benedikt Pirker, Monsieur Tshiamala réfléchit sur la possibilité de criminaliser, à travers le champ matériel de la Cour pénale internationale, les graves atteintes écologiques.

    Mona Agha Seyed Jafar Kashfi (September-December 2019)
    Dr Mona Agha Seyed Jafar Kashfi is a PhD holder from University of Tehran with expertise in environmental law, investment law and energy law. She was granted the scholarship from University of Fribourg to work as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Institute for European Law of University of Fribourg. In this period, she worked on legal analysis of the transnational corporations’ task concerning environmental impact assessment. For the purpose of her research, she examined international environmental agreements, international investment treaties and arbitral tribunals and courts’ decisions. On 11th November 2019, she presented her research work at «Midi Actuel» a seminar organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg.

    Maryam Hajiarab (Septembre - Décembre 2019)
    Mme Maryam Hajiarab est doctorante en philosphie du droit international à l'Université Shahid Beheshti de Téhéran et au bénéfice d'une bourse de recherche doctorale de l'Université de Fribourg. Lors de sa visite au semestre d'automne 2019, elle consacrera ses recherches à des questions d'épistémologie appliquée aux droit international.

    Georgios Milios (May-July 2019)
    Georgios Milios is a researcher and lecturer on Migration and Refugee Law at the University of Barcelona. He worked for three months (May-July) as a Post-Doctoral visiting researcher at the Institute for European Law of the University of Fribourg. In this period, he carried out research on the right to family reunification of seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in EU and international law. In addition, his research focused on the domestic legislation of several European countries regarding the same issue, as well as on the compatibility of the EU and domestic rules with human rights standards. His research project was presented at the “Midi actuel”, a seminar organised by the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg.

    Christian Tshiamala Banungana, Université de Kinshasa (Octobre 2018 – Février 2019)
    Bourse doctorale de l’Université de Fribourg, sujet : « De l’exercice par la Cour pénale internationale de sa compétence répressive dans le contexte du développement d’un ordre écologique international » 

    Marco Bocchi (Septembre 2018 - Décembre 2018)
    Le Dr Marco Bocchi est titulaire d’un doctorat en droit international de l’Université de Rome 2 (Tor Vergata). Il est chercheur invité auprès de la Chaire de droit international public et de droit européen avec une bourse d’étude de l'Université de Fribourg pour chercheurs post doctoraux. Sous la direction de Madame La Professeur S. Besson, le Dr. Bocchi travaille sur un projet de recherche qui a pour vocation de discuter de manière critique la constitutionnalisation du droit international et à de donner des esquisses de réponse au débat scientifique en cours sur l’évolution du droit international par les tribunaux internationaux


    Ketevan Tskhadadze     (September-October 2018)
    Dr. Ketevan Tskhadadze is associate professor in administrative law at the Open University Tbilisi (Georgia). She worked for two months (September-October) as guest researcher at the Institute for European Law of the University of Fribourg. Her research topic was ,,The Contract in the Public Service”.
    The research was mainly based on the comparative law method. For the purpose of this research the model of the public service of Switzerland was the most relevant and illustrated the particularities of the institution of public service and its appropriateness. The research considered the public service model in Swiss Law, the contractual relations in the public service, and the difference between private and public law contracts.


    Marco Inglese     (Septembre 2017 – Août 2018)
    Marco Inglese, titulaire d’un doctorat en cotutelle de l’Université de Bologne et de l’Université de Strasbourg, a effectué ses recherches postdoctorales à l’Institut sous la direction de Madame le Professeur Samantha Besson grâce à une Bourse d’Excellence de la Confédération Suisse. Le projet de recherche a porté sur la règlementation de l’économie collaborative dans le marché intérieur de l’Union européenne, en considérant soit les droits des consommateurs soit les aspects de droit de la concurrence.


    Liliia Khasanova     (Feb-May 2018)
    Liliia Khasanova is a PhD candidate in International Public Law at Kazan Federal University (Russia). Ms. Khasanova spent three months at the Institute  for European Law conducting research in the field of amicable settlement of international trade disputes under the supervision of Dr. Benedikt Pirker. Her research project “Negotiations as a way of solving international trade disputes in the WTO framework” is interdisciplinary in its nature and combines theoretical and empirical approaches. Based on provisions of international trade law, central concepts of international relations theory and negotiation theory, this project introduces a legal analysis of the possibilities to reach a Mutually Agreed Solution within the WTO dispute settlement mechanism. Based on the interviews conducted with representatives of permanent missions of member states to the WTO and other practitioners in Bern and Geneva, certain guidelines for negotiators were established in order to solve disputes in the most rapid, structured and efficient manner.

    Giovanni Verardi (September - December 2017)
    Giovanni Verardi is a Ph.D. researcher in International Law and European Union Law at Sapienza University of Rome. He worked for three months as Post-Doctoral Fellow at Institute of European Law of University of Fribourg, under the supervision of Prof. Samantha Besson. He carried on a research about «Responsibility to protect, unilateralism and global governance», in order to conclude a monography on this topic. On 20th November 2017, he presented his research work at «Midi Actuel», an event organized twice a month within Faculty of Law of University of Fribourg, that allows assistants and researchers to introduce a current legal question and to debate about it. Specifically, he focused both on the relationship between humanitarian intervention and the doctrine of responsibility to protect, and on the link between that one and the phenomenon of global governance and informal law-making in international law.


    Andrea Romano
    Andrea Romano, Doktor in Staatstheorie der Universität Rom La Sapienza (2014), hat im Sommersemester 2017 einen Forschungsaufenthalt am Institut für Europarecht verbracht. 

    Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind EU-Migrations- und Asylrecht.
    Am Institut für Europarecht führte er ein Projekt über „Resettlement“ und die internationale Dimension des Solidaritätsprinzips durch. Dabei beschäftigte er sich insbesondere mit dem EU-Kommissionsvorschlag über einen neuen EU-Neuansiedlungsrahmen. Die Forschungsergebnisse wurden am 18. April im Rahmen des Seminars Mittag aktuell diskutiert und werden demnächst veröffentlicht.


    Jürgen Bast     (1. Februar - 21. März 2017)
    Jürgen Bast ist Professor für Öffentliches Recht und Europarecht an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Deutschland. Er ist zurzeit Visiting Professor am National Center of Competence in Research – The Migration-Mobility Nexus (nccr – on the move) und hält sich auf Einladung von Prof. Sarah Progin-Theuerkauf am Institut für Europarecht auf. Die Forschungsschwerpunkte von Jürgen Bast sind das europäische und internationale Migrationsrecht, das Europäische Verfassungsrecht und das Öffentliche Recht der Globalisierung.

    Alle drei Interessengebiete verbinden sich in einem langfristig angelegten Forschungsprojekt zur Territorialität des Öffentlichen Rechts. Während seines Gastforschungsaufenthalts in Fribourg arbeitet Jürgen Bast an einem Papier zum Thema „Migration, Borders, and the Territoriality of EU Law“ und stellt die Forschungsergebnisse im Rahmen der Public Lecture Series Spring 2017 des nccr - on the move vor.

    Marcos Andrade Moreno (25. Februar - 25. Mai 2016)
    Marcos Andrade Moreno, doctorant en philosophie du droit à l’Université Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, a effectué un séjour de recherche à l’Institut de droit européen sous la supervision de la Prof. Samantha Besson pour quatre mois au printemps 2016. Intéressé par la question du pluralisme moral en droit, il a mis à profit son séjour pour explorer cette question en lien avec le droit international des droits de l’homme et notamment la jurisprudence de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme.

    Monica Parodi (27. September - 27. Dezember 2015)
    Dr Monica Parodi, titulaire d’un doctorat en droit européen de l’Université de Genoa, a effectué un séjour de recherche post-doctoral à l’Institut de droit européen sous la supervision de la Prof. Samantha Besson en automne 2015 grâce à une bourse post-doctorale de l’Université de Fribourg. Ses recherches durant son séjour ont porté sur la question des immunités d’Etat en droit international et de leurs relations au droit international et européen des droits de l’homme et notamment dans la jurisprudence de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme, de la Cour internationale de Justice et de la Cour constitutionnelle italienne.
