Call for Applications – Hérodote Programme Spring 2026

The University of Fribourg offers a preparatory programme for university studies for refugees. There are two options:

  • Hérodote Programme: for candidates who meet the admission requirements of the University, except for the required language level. This program lasts at least one semester and starts in spring and autumn semesters.
  • Hérodote Plus Programme: for candidates with a university background who do not meet the admission requirements. This programme is only available in the Faculty of Humanities, lasts (at least) two semesters and starts only in the autumn semester.

Applications are open for the Hérodote Programme starting in the spring semester of 2026.

Conditions for applying for the Hérodote Programme at the University of Fribourg:

  • Live in Switzerland.
  • Residence permit F, B, N or protection status S.
  • A2 to B1 level in French or German (the language of the intended studies).
  • Support from a recognised integration official for the study project.
  • Meet the admission requirements for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the University of Fribourg, apart from the stipulated language criteria.

Applications are assessed and evaluated individually, and admission to the programme depends largely on the feasibility of the study project. Meeting all the above criteria does not guarantee acceptance. The participation fee is CHF 3000 per semester.

Documents to prepare for the application:

  • A motivation letter describing the study project, preferably co-signed by the integration advisor or another person responsible for integration support
  • A copy of the residence permit
  • A copy of the passport or valid ID (front and back)
  • A complete and up-to-date CV
  • Secondary school diploma, with list of subjects/courses taken and grades from the last three years
  • Depending on the country, additional documents (see CAGeo.)
  • If you have already studied at a university: university diploma(s), transcript of grades and/or credits, and diploma supplement (if available)

If original documents are not transcribed in the French, German, Italian, or English language then a certified translation, into French, German or English, must be provided.

How to apply:

An application form is available for candidates. It can be filled out with their integration advisor. After reviewing the application, the University will decide if admission to Hérodote is possible or if a Hérodote Plus application should be considered.

Application deadline: 30 November 2025

Questions? If you are unsure whether you meet the admission requirements, write to us at herodote@unifr.ch.

Interested? Kindly contact us before 15 November at herodote@unifr.ch to receive the link to the application form. In your message, explain:
