Images in Premodern Societies

Images in Premodern Societies. A Dialogue about the State of the Field on the Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of «Iconographica»

Edited by Michele Bacci, Fabrizio Crivello and Vesna Scepanovic (Florence, Sismel - Edizioni del Galluzzo, 2023).

The aim of this book is not to propose a new theory, but rather to explore the multiple ways in which the notion of image is used, approached, and understood in the daily work of those involved in visual studies today. A list of sixteen questions was sent to twenty-five image-scholars from different countries: their answers are in themselves an effective testimony to the multiplicity of approaches that emerge from the personal experience of individual scholars in their own dynamic interaction with the realities (cultural, political, academic) around them.
