Animal welfare & 3Rs
The Universities of Fribourg and Zürich are committed to the ethical treatment of laboratory animals through the application of the 3R principle.
The Swiss 3R Competence Centre (3RCC) promotes the 3Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement of animal experimentation) in Switzerland and facilitates its implementation in the life sciences, focusing on research, education and communication.
Animal welfare and the 3Rs are to be taken into account through exemplary animal husbandry, appropriate training of staff, careful experimental design and the use of all means of reducing animal suffering. Animal Welfare and the 3RCC support the Universities of Fribourg and Zürich in pursuing this goal by providing advice, training and inspections.
