The Institute for Dominican Studies (IED) is an institute of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Fribourg and is attached to it. The aim of the IED is:

  1.  to promote and enhance the resources offered by the Dominican tradition and by the study of St Thomas Aquinas, especially in the following fields: to promote and enhance the resources offered by the Dominican tradition and by the study of St. Thomas Aquinas, especially in the following fields: Sacred Scripture, Thomistic theology, Church history, dogmatic theology and moral theology in dialogue with contemporary questions, and the perspective of patristic studies, taking into account the intimate link between Dominican theology and spirituality;
  2. to promote and participate in contemporary scientific theological research related to the thought and tradition of Saint Thomas Aquinas and the Dominican Order;
  3. to enable students to form a theological synthesis.

 

Composition:

The organs of the Institute are:

The organs of the Institute are: a) the Advisory Board of the Institute; b) the Director of the Institute; c) the Vice-Director of the Institute; d) the Scientific Advisory Board.

The Scientific Advisory Board, consisting of the Director and Deputy Director and six to ten other members elected for their expertise by the Institute’s Advisory Board, shall support the Advisory Board by providing expertise and advice and may be engaged for ad hoc tasks.
