I have been a PhD candidate at the Moving Matters research group in the Department of Anthropology and the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) at the University of Amsterdam since 2024. Before joining the programme in the Netherlands, I was affiliated with the Department of Anthropology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Indonesia, where I worked as a junior lecturer. My current ethnographic project is entitled “Pitching Promises, Imagining Futures: The Yogyakarta International Airport and Aerotropolis Development in Indonesia”, under the supervision of Dr Tina Harris and Dr Luisa Steur. The project mainly explores how urban (and airport) planners in Indonesia envision the future of their cities through the modernization of national civil aviation infrastructure. Moreover, it focuses on how aerotropolis projects deal with complex and contradictory local and national ambitions, as well as the temporality of urban and peri-urban futures in Java, Indonesia.

As a visiting PhD candidate at the Unit of Social Anthropology at the University of Fribourg (September 2026 to January 2027), I will working on the introduction to my dissertation, as well as a research article entitled “Architectural Enchantment: Blurred Boundaries and the Politics of the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) Aerotropolis Landscape”, for which I will be collaborating with Prof. Agnieszka Joniak-Lüthi and Dr. Madlen Kobi.
