Talk as part of a colloquium in Data-Driven Matrials discovery.
Summary: Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are popular light-emissive materials for optoelectronic and quantum devices. Perovskite QDs (pQDs) are inherently hybrid materials, consisting of soft ionic semiconductor cores and organic ligand shells, making them uniquely hybrid soft-hard nanomaterials. I will first introduce colloidal QDs, and synthesis robots and self-driving labs combined with data-driven material discovery. I will then discuss my work on in situ spectroscopy to rapidly screen pQDs’ chemical and photophysical properties, and our research into developing exciting new pQDs with a tuneable and functionalized surface chemistry. Finally, I will present my plan to develop automated in situ robotic synthesis and characterisation platforms to quantify QDs’ physical and thermodynamic properties, allowing for data-driven discovery of colloidal quantum materials
