How can I conduct Postdoctoral research at the University of Fribourg?
There are two possibilities to work as a postdoc at the University of Fribourg: either through an assistantship or by means of external funding. For further details about both, please check out the Funding Options page.

Do Postdoctoral Fellows Need to Register at the University?
Yes, they do. Fees amount to 50 CHF per semester for candidates with Swiss qualifications and 100 CHF for candidates with foreign qualifications. The maximum duration of a postdoc is six semesters, but this term may be extended upon decision of the Faculty Board.

Will Anyone Send a Copy of the Contract to the Immigration Control Office (Service de la Population et des Migrants) on Behalf of a Postdoctoral Assistant?
The copies of the contract are automatically sent by the Human Resources Division.

How Is the Salary Calculated?
The University of Fribourg has several employment contracts. The University Financial Services calculate the salary according to these models.

Is It Possible to Take Unpaid Leaves of Absence to Go Abroad if the Postdoctoral Project Is Financed through an Assistantship Contract?
It is possible to do so, but it has to be agreed upon with the project manager before passing on the request to the employer (the Human Resources Division) for approval.
