First steps

Find a supervisor

Finding a professor who agrees to supervise your thesis is the first step.  This person will also be able to provide you with the support and advice regarding the departmental regulations and will inform you regarding scholarships. A good place to start will be trying a keyword search on the university homepage (Research topics) to see if you find a topic/person fitting to your expertise. If you find such a person, please contact him/her directly by email, including your documents.

Admission

The Admissions Office acts as a central enquiry point providing information concerning applying for admission, enrolment conditions and the registration procedure. Enrolment conditions may vary depending on the applicant's credentials: for further details, please follow the links Conditions for Candidates with Swiss Qualifications and Conditions for Candidates with Foreign Qualifications

Joint supervision(cotutelle)

The joint PhD supervision enables the student to collaborate with supervisors from two different universities, one of which may be either in Switzerland or abroad. Each of the two universities awards the doctorate mentioning the joint supervision.

 Be aware

A joint supervision of the PhD thesis does not automatically entitle  admission to the University of Fribourg. Any prospective doctoral student must go through the Admission Procedure. Likewise, admission to the University of Fribourg does not automatically entail a joint supervision of the PhD thesis, which needs to be organized independently.
