This course will be given in French and English simultaneously. English will be used for the main instructions, but all interactions between the Professor and the students will be done in the most convenient language for the student.
This course provides a practical and progressive introduction to data management using Stata. The focus is on best practices commonly applied in, for instance, academic research, government institutions, and international organizations. Students will learn how to import, clean, transform, document, and prepare datasets for statistical analysis, with an emphasis on reproducible workflows.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Navigate Stata and work efficiently with do-files for reproducibility
- Import, explore, and assess the quality of a dataset
- Clean, transform, and structure data
- Work with survey data and sampling weights
- Build a complete pipeline from raw data to analysis-ready data
- Draw maps to showcase the spatial distribution of key variables
- Run basic regressions and interpret the results
Each class will combine a lecture part (presentation of concepts and/or main tools) followed by applications on personal laptops. Basic statistics knowledge, no prior experience with Stata required; a laptop is required to participate.
