Students will learn about the general concepts of generative AI and how it works. They will then be asked to reflect on the applications of AI in the world of research and discover new ones.

The limitations of AI will also be discussed, such as hallucinations, transparency, and ethical and regulatory issues surrounding AI. Finally, students will also practice prompt engineering to meet their specific needs.

Objectifs

This workshop will enable students to develop their skills in understanding and applying AI models (ChatGPT and Copilot) and in understanding AI ethics.

• Understand how generative AI tools like ChatGPT function at a “general” level.
• Identify opportunities and risks in using AI in academic research
• Evaluate AI-generated content critically (e.g., recognizing hallucinations or biased outputs).
• Apply basic prompt strategies to improve outputs.
• Reflect on ethical, legal, and practical considerations when using AI tools in academia.

Etudiant·e·s

Students (BA, MA, Doctorant at Unifr or HES-SO) from all disciplines who wish to understand and discover the applications of AI, develop their skills in using AI and ethically integrate AI tools into in their studies.

Prérequis

• Basic familiarity with research workflows (e.g., literature review, data analysis)
• Having a computer and an account on ChatGPT and Copilot, not necessarily a premium version.
• No technical skills required
• At ease with English
