INTENS: Intelligibility of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This joint research project ambition is to support decision makers and pedagogical designers in their effort to develop the quality of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and more generally of new forms of learning environments : are these learning environments efficient for all students : young students entering in HE and adults learners ? ; Which characteristics of learning environment lead to quality learning for whom? To do so it will develop validated instruments and verify specific hypothesis related to two major questions: How do student characteristics and those of digital learning environments interact? What are the con- figurations emerging from these interactions that can lead to quality learning? Added value achieved through the cross-border co-operation

 

This proposal is based on recent scientific advances, in particular those of its authors (spe- cialists and experienced researchers in university teaching, educational technology, distance learning and cognitive psychology), to carry out a fundamental research project lasting 36 months to verify according to a cross sectional longitudinal research plan, hypotheses of cir- cular causality between variables characterizing students, digital learning environments and the quality of learning results. Research will be carried out in 7 MOOCs and 18 hybrid cours- es offered in Human Sciences. The cross-border collaboration offers the opportunity for a unique collaboration between well recognized experts in the domain having made significa- tive scientific advances in the domain (Profs. Charlier, Lameul and Dr. Deschryver : Hy-SUP project and Prof. A. Jézégou and L. Cosnefroy habilitations). Moreover, Prof. Laurent Cosne- froy has the direction of the Higher Education research center in France (ENS-IFE) which offers a good opportunity to develop research in HE with the collaboration of Prof. Charlier in Switzerland. Eventually, as national collaborations, FUN (France Université Numérique) and the University of Geneva (Prof. Bétrancourt) have accepted to open the access for this re- search to some MOOCs.
