On 1–2 October 2026, Lena Kaufmann convened the CUSO PhD workshop "Technologies of (Mis)Trust" at Crêt-Bérard in Puidoux, on behalf of the Social Anthropology Unit at the University of Fribourg. Drawing on key literature and concrete examples from the field, the workshop critically examined the concepts of technology and trust in anthropology. Participating PhD students presented and discussed their own research in relation to the workshop topic, and received feedback on it. Additionally, Prof. Yichen Rao from Utrecht University delivered a keynote lecture entitled "Interfacing (Mis)Trust: Platforms as Scamming Arts". Participants also had the opportunity to learn about and discuss how to succeed in academia more broadly.
