Diagenesis and Petrophysics

Classical petrophysical properties, such as porosity and permeability, have been well-defined in siliciclastic sedimentary systems but the complexity inherent to carbonate systems hampers the use of traditional porosity, permeability and facies relationships. The Carbonate Sedimentology research group is studying and exploring the use of 3D pore networks and other rock mechanical properties to characterize complex carbonate systems. Additionally, the Carbonate Sedimentology research groups focuses on the impact of fluids on changing petrophysical properties and diagenesis in carbonate sediments.
