Over the past years, the importance of digitalization and online accessibility has increased. However, it is not yet clear whether and how the digitalization improved access to information and promote self-determination, as well as well-being of people with disabilities. To examine the association between well-being and information access, we collected responses from people with visible or invisible disabilities with online questionnaires and with interdisciplinary research methods involving psychology, law and computer science. We recruited more than 50 participants via professionals, specialized associations and social media. Our results revealed lower scores on the WHO-5 scale of well-being in participants with mental disabilities. The most important life areas to achieve resilience were reported to be “health status”, “living together” and “personal relationships”. People with disabilities also reported a high need and a low satisfaction with information about well-being and independence, their rights in Switzerland and entitlement to benefits from social insurances. When information is accessible, they more often access it from the internet. Only half of our sample had knowledge of specific themes such as end-of-life rights. Finally, certain areas of information were highly correlated to well-being. Altogether, while the situation of people with disabilities improved those last years especially with the revision of the law on disabled people in Switzerland (Lhand), our study shed light on several areas where information is lacking and that might improve resilience in people with visible or invisible disabilities.
