Einstein’s relativity, special and general, is a cornerstone of modern physics. It embraces topics like time delation, curved spacetime, black holes, gravitational waves, and cosmology. This class uses a “physics first” approach to make this theory accessible with a minimum of tensor calculus.
Training aims
Have a basic understanding of the principles of special and general relativity. Know the major experiments and phenomena in the field. Get a grasp of the necessary notions in differential geometry (tensors, curvature etc.).
Documentation
The class is based on the textbook „A General Relativity Workbook“ by Thomas A. Moore (University Science Books, 2013). There exists a French translation of this book:
Tomas A. Moore, „Relativité générale“ (DeBoeck, 2014).
