Abstract
Sulfide-based argyrodite solid electrolytes have emerged as key contenders for next-generation all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) due to their high ionic conductivity and favorable mechanical properties. However, the transition from laboratory-scale pellet cells to scalable pouch-cell architectures suitable for industrial production is a formidable challenge. This Perspective identifies the critical barriers limiting this transition, including the lack of standardized reporting and validation practices, chemical instability of sulfide electrolytes toward moisture and polar solvents, and the reliance on high stack pressures. We discuss the need for reproducible benchmarks, solvent–electrolyte compatibility mapping, and scalable wet-processing techniques that enable reliable film fabrication. In particular, we highlight the emerging role of organic coatings and polymeric binders as chemically tunable, cost-effective routes to enhance interfacial stability and processability. Addressing these scientific and engineering gaps will be essential to bridge laboratory innovation and industrial scalability, accelerating the realization of practical argyrodite-based ASSBs.
