By Train:
Arriving by plane: The Airports of Genève and Zürich have a railway station inside the airport; Basel dont have one.
From Genève: the trip to Fribourg lasts around 1h30.
From Zürich: the trip to Fribourg lasts around 1h40 (on some trains, change in Berne is necessary).
From Basel/Bâle: the trip to Fribourg lasts around 1h55 (train change in Berne).

A 1/2 tax railway card (Abonnement 1/2 tarif/Halbtax Abonnement) valid one year enables to travel in Switzerland at half priced tickets on trains and city public transportation. It can be bought in all railway stations (CFF-SBB). The price is 150.- CHF (one ID/passport picture is required).

By Car:
Fribourg is located on the Highway (A12) between Berne and Lausanne.

Public Transportation in Fribourg

There is a good public transportation system in Fribourg and surroundings (buses).
An city ticket costs between 1.60.- and 2.70.- CHF depending on distance. Tickets can be purchased at the boots (no money in return!!).

Taxis are very expensive even for short distances.

Make also sure that you have a place to sleep by contacting the person responsible for your housing to insure that you can have your keys.

In case you are not able to sleep in your intended housing for the first couple of nights, there is always the possibility to sleep in a hotel or a youth hostel (www.iyhf.org)

When you arrive, be sure to be able to find your way around Fribourg in order to locate your housing. A detailed map of the city can be found online.
