The cost of living in Switzerland is high.  You may also incur costs through your active participation in the cultural life of Fribourg as well as expenses due to playing on sports teams and participating in other student organizations.  It is recommended that one accumulates a budget of around 1400.- to 1600.- CHF p/month (insurance not included).  This budget is approximate and depends on the lifestyle you lead.  Students must demonstrate a certain level of maturity, responsibility, and prudence in managing their budget during their stay.  Students who desire to travel during vacations or to ski must prepare a separate budget for such expenses.  You must also allow for expenses due to buying textbooks and other study materials. 


Here is a brief look at how much things may cost you in Switzerland  on a monthly basis (all estimations are in Swiss Francs):

Housing: 450.- to 600.-
Food: 400.- to 600.-
Public transport (depending on location): 50.- to 80.-
Miscellaneous, pocket money: 200.-
Books and study material: 50.- to 200.-
