Research Unit Moral Theology and Ethics

Studien zur theologischen Ethik ("Gelbe Reihe") (STUDIES IN THEOLOGICAL ETHICS: ‘YELLOW SERIES’)

About the Studien zur theologischen Ethik

The series Studien zur theologischen Ethik is an important locus of ethical-theological reflection in the German-speaking world. It aims to

  • Identify and discuss key questions regarding the normative claims of religious convictions,
  • Demonstrate the particular value of theological ethics as an indispensable conversation partner in interdisciplinary exchange,
  • Deliver moral theological contributions to the ethical self-understanding of modern societies.

The series gathers primarily works on key fundamental moral questions but also outstanding studies on specialised themes in contemporary ethics.

The Studien zur theologischen Ethik was founded in bilingual form in 1977 by Dietmar Mieth (in charge of German titles) and Carlos Josafat Pinto de Oliveira (in charge of French titles). In 1981, Dietmar Mieth’s role was taken over by Adrian Holderegger. For many years, the series was published as Studien zur theologischen Ethik/Etudes d’éthique chrétienne [Studies in Theological Ethics] by the university publishers Freiburg i. Üe./Herder-Verlag Freiburg i. Br. as well as by Editions du Cerf Paris. Today the predominantly German-language series is continued by Adrian Holderegger, Markus Zimmermann (seit 2011) and Daniel Bogner (2014, in the role of managing co-editor) at Academic Press Fribourg and Herder Freiburg i. Br.
