Visit from a Delegation from Mongolia
5th and 6th November 2015
The Institute has hosted a delegation from Mongolia, composed of executive staff members of the President’s Office of Mongolia as well as of some of the close advisers to the President.
The Presidency is preparing a legal text to introduce direct democracy rights in Mongolia. Participants wanted to see how these rights work in practice in Switzerland at the local level.
During their stay in Fribourg, participants under the lead of Nicolas Schmitt have met representatives of the civil society who deal with direct democracy, in order to allow Mongolian officials to have not only theoretical information about the system, but also an insight view of the practical challenges imposed by direct democracy (technical organization, launch of initiatives and referendums, political management of a city like Fribourg etc.).
During the «Vin d’Honneur» offered by the City of Fribourg, Mr. Tsagaan, Head of the President’s Office, explained that his expectations have been fulfilled by his stay in the City of the Dukes of Zaeringhen. Even if European middleage seems far away from Mongolia, the Institute has built a bridge between two continents!
