Pedagogically Sustained Adaptive Learning Through the Exploitation of Tacit and Explicit Knowledge

Did@cTIC's Director Prof. Bernadette Charlier has successfully
co-initiated a 6 million € project with over a dozen partners: Greece,
France, Luxembourg, Algeria, Belgium and the United Kingdom. She is now
one of two principal scientific co-ordinators. The goal of PALETTE is
to eleborate, implement and promote an extensible set of interoperable
services that appropriately address the needs of Communities of
Practice (CoPs). The project has fully started in March 2006. In Fribourg the PALETTE project gives the opportunity to enhance the quality of the activities realised by the Communities of Practices organised within the Did@cTIC diploma.
The PALETTE project aims at facilitating and augmenting individual and organisational learning in Communities of Practice. Towards this aim, an interoperable and extensible set of innovative services as well as a set of specific scenarios of use will be designed, implemented and thoroughly validated in CoPs of diverse contexts.
The above services and scenarios will support:
- incremental convergence towards a comprehensive representation of practices
- argumentative debates about practices
- enhancement of practices through knowledge exploration, inside and outside the CoPs
- provision of procedures for the reification and creation of new practices
Scientific and Technological Objectives
In order to develop technological and pedagogical learning supports to (1) incremental convergence towards a comprehensive representation of practices, (2) argumentative debates about practices, (3) reification and exploitation of knowledge outside and inside the CoPs, (4) engagement, participation and learning, (5) acceptable, adaptable and used by a large number of CoPs, the PALETTE project will:
- Describe the needs of existing CoPs representative of three domains of professional activities: teaching, engineering and management. For each of these domain, CoPs emerged in the organisational context as well as CoPs emerged in the educational context will be considered.
- Design with the participation of these CoPs an extensible set of information, knowledge management and mediation services and specific scenarios supporting CoPs activities all along their life.
- Develop and implement these services and scenarios addressing particularly their usability, interoperability and knowledge integration.
- Validate these services and scenarios by describing and analysing the conditions for their acceptability, adaptability and uses.
