AMI nano-characterization platform

Microscopy and scattering techniques

The AMI nanocharacterization platform is a technology platform from the University of Fribourg, located at the Adolphe Merkle Institute. It provides access to microscopy techniques (electron and light microscopy), atomic force microscopy and scattering techniques (light and X-ray scattering).

What we do

  • Provide access to electron microscopy, advanced light microscopy, atomic force microscopy as well as light and X-ray scattering techniques
  • Provide training and guidance in the use of those instruments
  • Provide pilots and proof of concepts for projects
  • Provide information, training and/or service for selected sample preparation techniques (cryoTEM, ultramicrotomy)
  • Maintain, align, calibrate and quality check the instruments
  • Troubleshoot, organize spare parts and consumables as well as organize repairs on all instruments
  • Provide all relevant information on our website
  • Provide a booking system (OpenIRIS)

Who can access the facility

All research groups from the University of Fribourg and associated Institutes can get access to the facility infrastructure following standard procedure (see usage policy). Our services are also available to external persons, through Swiss Nanoanaytics. Interested parties should directly get in touch via email.
