On 10 June 2024, the National Council approved a motion by Aargau Councillor of States Marianne Binder (centre) calling for a ban on headscarves in schools and kindergartens, against the wishes of the Federal Council. The motion was passed with 104 votes in favour, 77 against and 10 abstentions.

According to the postulate, the Federal Council should now draw up a report on the extent to which a basis can be created based on the Art. 8 para. 1-3, Art. 10 para. 2, Art. 11 para. 1, Art. 19 and Art. 41 para. 1 let. g of the Federal Constitution, which guarantees all children in schools and kindergartens the same rights and freedoms and ensures child protection.
