After an introduction to International Refugee Law, the course will deal with the evolution of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) and its different directives and regulations. A special focus will be put on the contested Dublin III Regulation. Switzerland's role within the Dublin system will also be discussed. The course is interactive and many ECJ cases will be analyzed.
This course will be streamed.
Examens
The exam will be oral (15 minutes). No preparation time is granted.
The legal texts that are permitted during the exam will be communicated during the course and be made available on Moodle.
Objectifs
The course will give an overview on the legal instruments in the area of asylum in Europe. Participants will familiarize with the most important ECJ cases. The acquired knowledge will allow them to work in the asylum sector, be it with authorities or with NGOs or International Organizations.
