Memorial service 10 years after the death of Archbishop Longin (Talypin)
Archbishop Longin (Talypin; 1946-2014), born in Finland, was a friend of the Ecumenical Institute and participated in conferences in Fribourg on several occasions. At the invitation of Archbishop Tikhon (Berlin Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church), Prof. Hallensleben and Prof. Guido Vergauwen took part in the commemorations ten years after his death: on 24 August 2024 at his grave in Bonn, on 25 August in his former parish in Düsseldorf.
Archbishop Longin represented the Russian Orthodox Church in the World Council of Churches and the Conference of European Churches. From 1999 to 2002, he headed the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church to the institutions of the European Union. In addition, he was deputy chairman of the "Commission of the Orthodox Church in Germany – Association of Dioceses" for several years. The participation of a large congregation in the memorial service shows how much he was also appreciated as a pastor and spiritual father.
