The critical remarks of Ivan Illich (1926-2002) on cultural topics such as medicine, school, gender etc. are of undiminished topicality. The international conference will focus not least on his inspirations for church reform. Illich sees in Western society a "corruption" of Christianity through its institutionalisation. With the expression "conviviality" he calls for an alternative way of life. Illich's thinking draws its inspiration from the surprising modernity of Christian faith: "Christians can now love the biblical God in the flesh". 

The conference is open to the public and will take place in the university's building "Miséricorde", Auditorium B.
