Introduction to Statistics II: Workshop R
UE-EIG.01008

Teacher(s): Leuenberger Christoph
Level: Bachelor
Type of lesson: Lecture
ECTS: 0
Language(s):
Semester(s): SS-2027

This workshop consists of a tutorial and a quiz, both of which are available on a Moodle site. You can complete the tutorial and take the quiz entirely online from home. During the summer term, we are offering four sessions in the computer room in case you encounter any difficulties installing the statistics software.

You must pass the workshop during the enrolment period in order for the mark for the associated statistics course to be validated! The deadline is the day before the exam for the associated statistics course.

This workshop builds on the foundations acquired in the first part and introduces students to the analysis of bivariate data using R. Students learn to investigate relationships between two variables and to carry out the corresponding analyses using R. In particular, scatter plots and simple correlation analyses are covered.

Another key focus is on basic statistical testing methods. Students will learn to carry out simple hypothesis tests in R and to interpret the results. This includes, in particular, tests for comparing means and simple tests for relationships between variables. The aim of the workshop is to enable students to analyse simple statistical problems independently using R.

Training aims

Students can analyse bivariate data sets using R and investigate relationships between two variables. They are able to create appropriate graphical representations and carry out simple correlation analyses.

They also learn about basic statistical test procedures and can apply simple hypothesis tests in R. Upon completion of the workshop, they will be able to interpret the results of such analyses and apply them correctly to simple statistical questions.
