Semester(s): AS-2026

This workshop comprises a tutorial and a quiz, both available on a Moodle page. Both the tutorial and the quiz can be completed entirely online from home. During the spring term, we are offering four sessions in the computer room for those experiencing difficulties with installing the statistics software.

Successful completion of the workshop during the registration period is required for the mark for the corresponding statistics course to be awarded. The deadline is set for the day before the exam for the corresponding statistics course.
The first part of the R workshop introduces students to the basics of working with the R programming language and the RStudio development environment. Students learn about the structure of the user interface and understand how data is organised and processed in R. They are also shown how to import and modify datasets, for example by importing external files and carrying out simple data manipulations.

Another focus is on descriptive statistics. Students learn how to calculate central measures such as the mean, median and standard deviation, as well as frequencies, and how to present the results using simple graphs. The aim of the workshop is to provide a solid introduction to working with R.

Training aims

Students acquire a basic understanding of how to use R and RStudio. They understand the structure of the user interface and can run simple scripts.
They are able to import datasets, carry out simple data manipulation and perform basic statistical analyses. They can also apply basic methods of descriptive statistics and present the results in the form of simple graphs.
By the end of the workshop, they will be able to analyse simple datasets using R and correctly interpret the main statistical results.
