This workshop comprises a tutorial and a quiz, both available on a Moodle page. Both the tutorial and the quiz can be completed entirely online from home. During the spring term, we are offering four sessions in the computer lab for those experiencing difficulties with installing the statistics software.
Successful completion of the workshop during the enrolment period is required for the corresponding statistics course mark to be awarded. The deadline is set for the day before the exam for the corresponding statistics course.
This workshop builds on the foundations covered in the first part and introduces bivariate data analysis using SPSS. Students learn how to examine the relationships between two variables and carry out the corresponding analyses in SPSS. Topics covered include cross-tabulations, scatter plots and simple correlation analyses.
Another focus is on basic statistical testing methods. Students learn how to carry out simple hypothesis tests using SPSS and how to interpret the results. These include tests for comparing means, as well as simple tests for analysing relationships between variables. The aim of the workshop is to enable students to analyse simple statistical problems independently using SPSS.
Training aims
Students can analyse bivariate data using SPSS and examine the relationships between two variables. They are able to produce appropriate visualisations, such as cross-tabulations or scatter plots, and carry out simple correlation analyses.
They also learn the basic methods of statistical testing and can apply simple hypothesis tests using SPSS. By the end of the workshop, they will be able to interpret the results of such analyses and use them correctly to address simple statistical questions.
