IACFS Conference on “Metropolitan Governance in Federal Countries” held from 25-26 September 2025, Mexico City
The Institute of Federalism participated in the IACFS Conference on “Metropolitan Governance in Federal Countries” held from 25-26 September at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), organised by the Institute of Legal Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Iberoamerican Institute of Constitutional Law and the International Association of Federal Studies.
Over two days, the conference hosted a wide range of scholarly contributions from across the globe on the challenges of metropolitan governance in federal countries. The presentations included theoretical and comparative perspectives, interdisciplinary explorations and highlighted the complexity that metropolitan governance poses in federal countries. The Institute of Federalism was represented by Prof. Eva Maria Belser, who gave a talk titled “Rebellious Cities: When Metros Challenge Federal Systems” and Dr. Rekha Oleschak Pillai, whose paper was titled “Cities as Sites of Inclusion and Federal Contestation: Examining Social Assistance for Immigrants in Switzerland”.
