Climate Change and Health: Podium discussion

Climate change has numerous impacts on people and their environment. Human health is particularly affected. According to WHO estimates, there are already around 250,000 additional climate-related deaths each year - from hunger, disease or heat.

What are the effects of climate change on humans, animals and the environment, especially in countries of the South? What does this mean for disadvantaged population groups? How does development cooperation address these problems? What moral obligations do we have?

The following experts will discuss:

  • Janine Kuriger Head of Division Global Programme Climate Change and Environment, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA.
  • Ilse van Roy Head of Programme Division and Member of the Executive Board, SolidarMed.
  • Prof. Dr. Ivo Wallimann-Helmer Expert in Environmental Justice and Climate Ethics, University of Fribourg, Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute.
  • Prof. Dr. Jakob Zinsstag-Klopfenstein Head of the Human and Animal Health Unit and Deputy Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel.
